Three Sirianni-style prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles' Nick Sirianni knows what he likes in an NFL player. When discussing the upcoming draft with reporters, Philadelphia's head coach said he wants three things from any draft pick.

"I think at the end of the day, we try to make it really simple as far as is the guy tough, does he love football, and does he have high football IQ," Sirianni said. “Because in my experience around good players, those are the guys that you can't go to the game without."

With that in mind, here are three prospects from the 2024 NFL Draft that could catch Sirianni's eye.

Kool-Aid McKinstry (CB), Alabama: Toughness

How tough is McKinstry? Tough enough to run a 4.47 40-yard dash with a broken foot. McKinstry chose not to participate in on-field drills after medical professionals discovered a Jones fracture in his right foot at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine but ran at Alabama’s pro day before undergoing surgery.

At 5-foot-11 and 199 pounds, McKinstry plays bigger than his size with an aggressive, physical style that sometimes gets him in trouble. Given the poor play of Philadelphia’s 31st-ranked secondary last season, the Eagles should have a tough time passing on McKinstry with a first-round pick.

Sione Vaki (S), Utah: Loves football

How much does Vaki love football? Enough to play all over the field following a two-year Mormon mission. In two seasons as a safety with Utah, Vaki had 90 tackles, two sacks and an interception but the team was equally fond of his offensive skills.

Vaki saw 53 touches last year, averaging 7.5 yards per carry for 317 yards and two touchdowns as a runner with 11 catches for 203 yards and three scores as a receiver.

He isn’t a burner (4.62 40-yard dash) but he’s versatile and loves football. He should be available in the fifth round where Philadelphia holds three picks and could become an asset for the Eagles’ special teams.

Mike Sainristil (CB), Michigan: Football IQ

Here’s what NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks had to say about the Wolverine:

“It is hard to find a better fit for the slot-corner role than Sainristil. The receiver-turned-cornerback is a high-IQ defender with the instincts and ball skills to create big plays on the perimeter in key moments. Despite his slender frame (5-foot-9, 182 pounds), Sainristil is built to handle the rigors of the position as a tough-minded, aggressive defender.”

Right now, little-used Avonte Maddox is Philadelphia’s slot cornerback. The six-year veteran missed seven games in 2022 and 13 games with a torn pectoral muscle in 2023. He was released by the team in March only to be re-signed a month later.

Sainristil’s nose for the football resulted in six passes defensed, six interceptions and first-team All-American honors last season. He’d be good insurance for Maddox and should be available in the second round where the Eagles own two picks.
