Preparing for the Season

Today, we're going to show you the difference between a rookie and a vet during a scrimmage where it was 141 degrees on the field. The vets (myself, Steve McNair and Willis McGahee) prepare for about 5 plays? The rooks like Edgar Jones ran through about 64 plays? It will be different tomorrow night.

Put up or shut up

Well the season is right around the corner and the team is put together. We had some tuff cuts made and will be depending on young players to back up and supply some much needed depth. At some point in the season one of those players is going to be asked to win us a game or carry the load. And of course they are going to be tested right off the bat.

NFL coaches can smell new blood in the water like a shark on a weekend cruise. But now the presason superbowl champs will have to bring it every week. Nothing like being a paper champion or the team to beat, you have to bring your a game every week.

On another note, I've been reading the blog and saw some comments about the rankings of players. First of all you can't take any of that stuff to heart. It's a matter of opinion and a hard job to do. Ranking positions like the top linebackers or tightends would have been easier. Because how can you compare what one guy does differently from another player, say an offensive tackle or a corner. So calm down if your guy wasn't as high as you wanted. If you had put the list together someone would be challenging its substance too. With all that being said i like my place on the list and I think I'll take it to my next contract meeting.

But in all seriousness that's a lot of miles traveled for an eighteenth rd draft pick from SIU number 53 ain't bad. And another note to all of you division 1 schools who look down on the lesser division, ha ha ha! Michigan shouldn't see the ranking this year. You all assume that there's no talent in those smaller colleges but trust me there are plenty of ballers there and we are holding the league down just as much as the hyped and sometimes over hyped urban legends. So see you on Monday night where I'll try to earn some national respect the only way that a D-1AA slappy knows how, by taking it violently!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

black monday

Today is always one of the most bitter sweet days of the football calendar, we call it black monday. That's the day when you show up after a game and find out that one of your teammates has been cut or let go or whatever term you prefer. That's the bitter part. The sweet part is that they didn't call you on the off day or have someone waiting at the door for you. The worst is when the terk misses you at the door and you go workout and then they cut you, now that alone is enough to drive a man crazy.

I remember being one of those guys who was scared to answer the cell phone, or worse, the hotel phone. Those days have passed for me for at least a year or two ago, but at some point rather if you're Steve Mcnair or Jerry Rice that day will come for us all, and it's a sad day so you feel bad for those guys.

Because sometimes it has nothing to do with talent but sometimes it's just the numbers. Or some draft pick has cost too much money so the GM or scout can't afford to show their boss that they made a bad call so they don't give you a fighters chance.

So all you fans, don't think that the best man always wins. For those guys, use that as your motivation. Look at me. According to the Chicago Bears scout I was really nothing to look at. Thank god the ravens took the film and watched it for themselves. Thanks da bears.

prime time

we had a cake walk in our first preseason game Mcnabb didn't play and I'm sure that made a world of difference. The Giants come to town and everyone will be pumped, yea it's preseason but it's still prime time with John Madden. To tell you how the coach is felling he is putting us in the black uniforms usually reserve for special occassions. The starters will go about two quarters and then shut it down the stadium will be rocking see you in tv land

knocking off the rust

well we are about a week into this thing and it's amazing how much you can forget in such a short period of time. Everyone is getting use to carrying our pads again. The young guys are happy to find the locker room on the first try. Finally after a week of hitting each other, we get a opportunity to hit some Redskins. We have a scripted scrimage tomorrow and the young guys are jacked up. Eventhough we are not in the same conference we are only a thirty-five minutes away from each other so things get intense. We share the same sports channel and they usually lead off with them and then follow up with us. So yours truly mentioned it on the air in a interview and put a wager on the game. The team that wins get to have their team lead off the show and get their post game stories first the reporters who cover us are pump at the fact that they can get their story finished earlier so they can get home. If we win guess who's moving up on the Chrismas list. signing off Madbacker
